Past Rambles

2010 East Arkansas Harvest Ramble, October 2

The East Arkansas Harvest Ramblers embarked on a journey with the Historic Preservation Alliance to explore the rich cultural history and agricultural landscape of East Arkansas.

Travelling east from Little Rock along scenic highways and back roads, Ramblers got a back-the-scenes look at an unusual seed warehouse in Scott, experienced the agricultural boom's legacy in Wynne, learned about the integrated Southern Tenant Farmers Union and toured Dyess, as well as a tour of the planned agricultural community where music legend Johnny Cash spent his early years.

The tour included brunch in famous road food paradise, De Valls Bluff, and a gala garvest dinner at the restored historic home of Martin and Kara Smith in Birdeye.

It was truly a wonderful experience and we hope you will join us for our next Ramble!

2006 Holiday Ramble- Christmas and Candlelight: Historic Washington

The Alliance rambled to historic Washington on December 2. The first stop in Washington was a tour the Cobb-Weber House and Coulter Farmstead. From there we had a reception hosted by Richard Butler at the Timberlake-Dudney House, then on to the candlelight tour of historic Washington, followed by dinner back at the Coulter Farmstead, hosted by Richard Butler and Jeremy Carroll. It was a very successful ramble and fun was had by all.  The Alliance plans to add the holiday ramble to Washington to our annual programs.

2006 Alliance Ramble- Delta Destinations: Four Centuries of Delta History

The 2006 Ramble was a huge success and thank you to all of the Ramblers for joining us in the Delta. Dr. John House, the Station Archeologist for the Arkansas Archeological Survey, UAPB gave a wonderful lecture at Arkansas Post detailing the latest findings on the earliest known Post settlement. Robert Moore, Jr. toured the Ramblers around Arkansas City and its wonderfully restored county courthouse. Dr. Ruth Hawkins of Arkansas State, Claudia Shannon and Ronnie Walker discussed the restoration of Lakeport Plantation, the state's only remaining riverfront plantation. Fun was had by all, and the Ramble to the Delta gave Ramblers an experience they will never forget.
