New Preserve America Community Designation brings Arkansas Number to 25 First Lady Michelle Obama announced 15 new Preserve America Communities. Among those communities is Hamburg, Arkansas in Ashley County. This addition brings the total to 25 communities in Arkansas, and 858 around the country.

The Historic Preservation Alliance of Arkansas invites individuals and organizations to nominate projects, groups or individuals for the 2010 Arkansas Preservation Awards. Awarded annually, the Arkansas Preservation Awards highlight outstanding achievement in historic preservation by honoring projects, programs and exemplary practices that foster historic preservation across the state. 

Developer Scott Reed announced plans to rehabilitate 315 Main Street at a press conference on Tuesday with Mayor Mark Stodola and Main Street Revitalization Committee Chair, Bob East.

In February, President Obama released his FY2011 budget request that would eliminate funding for Preserve America and Save America's Treasures, and cut funding for National Heritage Areas by 50%.  These critical historic preservation programs matter now more than ever - not only because they protect our national heritage, but because they serve as economic development engines and job creators in the thousands of communities they serve. For example, Save America's Treasures alone has been responsible for more than 16,000 jobs since it was created just ten years ago.

The Historic Preservation Alliance requests your help in identifying endangered historic places that reflect our Arkansas Heritage for the 2010 Most Endangered Places List.

The Arkansas’s Most Endangered Historic Places list highlights threats facing historically and architecturally significant properties throughout the state.  The Alliance is soliciting nominations from residents and organizations across Arkansas of endangered places to be considered for inclusion in the list.  The deadline for submitting nominations is Friday, April 16, 2010.  Click here to download a nomination form or to submit a nomination online.

On January 15, 2010 the Historic Preservation Alliance of Arkansas awarded 13 individuals and organizations - including the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute, and the City of Texarkana - for their efforts to preserve Arkansas’s diverse historic resources, from the restoration of a plantation home in the Arkansas Delta to new construction on an historic farm.

On Monday, the Administrative Rules and Regulations Subcommittee of the Arkansas Legislative Council approved the administrative rules for the AR Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit.

The FY 2010 budget bill that includes appropriations for the Department of the Interior was signed into law by the President on October 30; the bill includes $4.6 million for Preserve America Grants administered by the National Park Service. 

Senator Blanche Lincoln, along with Senator Olympia Snowe (ME), is expected to introduce the Revised Community Restoration and Revitalization Act to amend the tax code that defines the Federal Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit on October 1^st.

Rules have been drafted for the recently enacted AR Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit and are now out for public comment.

Benton, Pocahontas and Texarkana are among the newest towns designated as Preserve America Communities.

The Deadline for submitting nominations for the Arkansas Preservation Awards is November 14th.  To be considered, all nominations must be postmarked by this date.
